To celebrate their tenth birthday, That Boutique-y Whisky Company have released a number of excellent limited editions. This dram here is one of them! Just 330 bottles of this top-drawer expression have been produced.

Expect aromas of honeycomb, caramel, and salt air on the nose. The palate brings liquorice, walnut whip, and orange peel before leading into a finish full of spicy chilli and golden syrup.

Another outstanding expression from Hunter Laing’s Authors’ Series. This 27-year-old year Clynelish has been matured in a bourbon barrel and was bottled at 53.8% abv in March 2021. This whisky is partnered with the iconic author and minister Edward Everett Hale.

The nose is gentle with rhubarb and shortbread. The palate is sweet and creamy with apple pie and custard before leading into the lingering, pleasant, and fruity finish.

Ultramarine is an outstanding new blend from Compass Box, released as part of their Extinct Blends Quartet. The expression is made up of malt and grain whiskies from Caol Ila, Girvan, Cameronbridge, and more. This wonderfully sweet and smoky blend was bottled at 51% abv and is free from chill filtration and added colouring.

Aromas of Madagascan vanilla, sumptuous toffee, and peat smoke fill the nose. Flavours of apple pie, bonfire smoke, and ginger snaps appear on the palate. The finish is long with notes of dried fruit and toasted nuts appearing at the close.

Part of the Connoisseurs Choice series by Gordon & MacPhail. Distilled in 1983 at Port Ellen Distillery, this expression matured in refill sherry casks before being bottled in 2001 at 40% abv.

From revered bottlers, Gordon & MacPhail, this Caol Ila single malt is a part of their Connoisseurs Choice series. The Islay expression has been matured in a single refill American hogshead cask for almost four decades, before being decanted at an impressive cask strength of 53.3% abv. The single cask yeilded just 150 rare bottles.

Tropical fruits intertwine with smoke on the nose, before cured meat flavours on the palate give way to pear, lime and mint leaves. A full finish with citrus fruit and bonfire embers.

From Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice Selection, this single malt whisky hails from Caol Ila distillery on Islay. Matured in a single first-fill sherry butt for 25 years, the expression was drawn from the cask at 56.7% abv. One of 532 bottles. 

Cured meat aromas infuse with peanuts and red apple on the nose. Raspberry and citrus peel flavours lead to milk chocolate on the palate, before a full and smoky finish with lingering dried banana.

A collection created in 1968 by ‘Mr George’ Urquhart, a man considered to be a whisky visionary, the Connoisseurs Choice range has had more than 2,000 bottles added to it over the intervening years, from almost 100 Scottish distilleries!

Each bottling in this iconic collection is a small batch expression chosen and created by Gordon & MacPhail’s unique expertise in matching spirit to oak casks, an expertise that’s been passed through the generations.

This particular bottling comes from Speyside distillery Craigellachie and was matured for 16 years in a refill American Hogshead before being bottled at 60.1% abv.

The Connoisseurs Choice range showcases single malts from distilleries across Scotland, uniting rare and highly sought-after single malts from some of Scotland’s most established names, maturing and bottling whiskies from distilleries as varied as Caol Ila on Islay to Strathmill in Speyside.

Exclusive to The Whisky Shop, this Connoisseurs Choice Dalmore 2008 17 Year Old #800117 is a limited-edition Highland region dram, released at 57.3% abv with only 146 bottles available world-wide. Filled in 2008 and aged 17 years, this is a liquid was matured in a refill bourbon barrel. 

Expect a nose of grapefruit and malted biscuit, a palate of grass, melon, nectarine and lime, before a perfect close of citrus, charred oak, and pepper. Not just rare and collectable – also delicious!

Bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as a part of their Connoisseurs Choice series, this golden expression hails from Glenallachie distillery in Speyside. The single malt whisky was matured for 15 years in a single refill sherry hogshead cask, before being decanted at a robust cask strength of 61.9% abv. One of only 246 bottles.

Vanilla pod aromas give way to candied pineapple and a hint of mint. Lemon zest flavours combine with redcurrant and soft liquorice. A spicy, medium length finish with touches of citrus.

Matured and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, this Connoisseurs Choice released as a part of their The Recollection Series #2 hails from Glenesk distillery in the Highlands. The refill sherry butt was filled in 1984, and was decanted in 2023 into just 103 bottles. Presented at 50.5% abv, free from chill filtration and at natural colour.

Berry compote aromas complement autumnal spice and sultanas, leading to a palate of stewed forest fruits, dark chocolate and hazenuts. A medium-bodied finish with coffee bean and apple.
