Distilled at the Macduff Distillery and bottled in 2024, this 16-year-old Speyside single malt is part of Single Cask Nation’s ever-growing list of fantastic drams. A limited-edition with just 259 bottles made, the liquid was finished in a first-fill American oak hogshead and bottled at 56.8% abv. 

Nose: Opens with a lingonberry tartness that gives way to warm apple pie, melted butter, warm toffee, toasted oats, roasted nuts, and powdered ginger with hints of honeysuckle around the edges.

Palate: Wonderfully complex with warm fruit compote, toasted buttered oats, coffee & vanilla ice cream, crisp red apples, overripe peach, and baked pears with ginger.

Finish: Long and pleasantly drying with shaved dark chocolate, tart fruits, and lingering ginger spice.

The Single Cask Nation Ruadh Mhor 2013 is a bold and smoky Highland single malt from the Glenturret distillery. Aged for 11 years, it spent the final 3 in a first-fill new charred oak hogshead, intensifying its rich peat and barbecue notes. Distilled in July 2013 and bottled at 55.9% ABV, this cask-strength dram delivers a unique flavour profile, with hints of smoky sour cherries and charred wood. Drawn from cask #171238, just 307 bottles were produced, making it a rare and characterful release. A standout expression for fans of peated whisky looking for something a little different.

This Single Cask Nation Tobermory 2008 16 Year Old is a limited edition, showcasing the unique character of the Tobermory distillery. Aged for 16 years in a  in a refill french oak barrique and bottled at 55.7% ABV, it has not been chill-filtered, retaining its natural richness. The whisky combines both the distillery’s unpeated and peated expressions, creating a harmonious dram with layers of complexity, ranging from fruity sweetness to a subtle maritime influence. 

The Single Cask Nation Tormore 2014 10 Year Old is a bold and characterful Speyside single malt. Matured for a decade, with the final four years spent in a first-fill new charred oak hogshead, it offers a rich depth and pronounced nuttiness. Bottled at a cask strength of 57.2% ABV, this expression comes from cask #170453, with just 300 bottles released. Distilled in October 2014, it highlights the rising reputation of Tormore under new ownership. This limited release is a striking example of Speyside’s complexity and charm.

Bottled as a part of The Single Malts of Scotland Reserve Cask’s Parcel No.12, this expression hails from Ben Nevis distillery on the outskirts of Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. Made from a small batch of four refill butts, the single malt was distilled in 2013, and aged for nine years before being decanted at 48% abv.

The nose is fat and rich with dusty dark chocolate, sultanas, dried mango and hazelnut. On the palate, flavours of charred marshmallow, kirsch chocolate, almonds and dried fruits coat the tongue, before a finish of dried mango and a touch of mandarin. 

Bottled as a part of The Single Malts of Scotland Reserve Cask’s Parcel No.12, this expression hails from Royal Brackla distillery in the Scottish Highlands. Made from a small batch of six barrels, the single malt was distilled in 2014, and aged for nine years before being decanted at 48% abv.

Expect a floral nose of honeysuckle, tarragon and rose petal water, alongside hints of sweet spice and custard creams. The palate is buttery, with lemon oil, black pepper and fresh strawberry flavours, before an elegant finish of buttermilk and subtle spice.

Combining peat and sherry seems like a bold choice but Smokehead have managed to perfectly master it. This single malt comes from an undisclosed Islay distillery and has been matured in Oloroso sherry casks to create this seductively smoky and fruity expression.

On the nose, there are aromas of dried fruit, peat smoke, and rich dark chocolate. The palate has gentle coastal notes as well as dried orange peel and raisin, with plenty of the sherry influence shining through before moving into the pleasantly spicy finish.

This beautiful expression from Laphroaig was bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in November 2007. Distilled in November 1989, the dram spent 18 years maturing before being bottled at 54.6% abv.

Described as ‘a whisky where nature and artistry converge’ this Brume Dorée  (‘golden mist’) cask matured SPEY 12 year old was left to age in innovative French casks. Using virgin oak, the casks uses water mist and controlled heat to open the wood’s pores, enhancing the oak-spirit interaction.

Beginning life with a 120-hour fermentation and slow distillation, before resting for 12 years, this release was bottled at 57.6% abv. The nose is rich and inviting with vanilla infused toffee and cardamom spices, underlaid with cranberry jam. The palate is smooth and inviting with an oily mouthfeel full of stewed apples and new oak influences. The finish brings robustness and depth with lingering liquorice and oolong tea.

With roots stretching back to 1770, the SPEY distillery uses a recipe created in 1856 which outlines exactly how each whisky is malted and distilled, even how the water source is chosen, all to bring people the most exquisite of bottlings, each and every time.  

This new and exclusive release from SPEY recently featured in Whiskeria and our W Club Decanted podcast, is the 2010 14 Year Old Port STR Cask. Drawn just for us here at The Whisky Shop from a single cask (No. 10), the liquid was bottled in 2025 at 48.7% abv. More than just a delicious dram , this Speyside release is presented in stunning packaging also exclusive to TWS, displaying commissioned artwork by Speyside Distillery Artist in Residence, Joanna McDonough.
