An unpeated single malt, this expression was distilled in 1985 and matured in refill bourbon casks until 2012 when it was recasked into first-fill bourbon casks, before a final maturation in French oak.Created using the very last 22 casks from the 1985 vintage, only 4,200 bottles have been released, each one presented at a natural cask strength of 48.7% abv and free from chill-filtration and artificial colouring.

Bottled in September 2016 at a strength of 48.6% abv, only 140 have been produced.Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a French author who became one of the most influential writers in Science Fiction. Basing many of his ideas on the latest technology of his time, his invention was so meticulous as to be completely convincing. Most remembered for his ‘extraordinary adventure’ series, Verne’s works such as Around the World in 80 Days, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, remain enduring classics to this day.

    Old school cool. This Bruichladdich is aged for 28 years in a Rivesaltes (sweet wine) butt. This is the 19th batch from That Boutique-y Whisky Company and was originally a release of 1,123 bottles at 48.5% abv. On the label, we see a certain Laddie on The Generation Game, a very prestigious position at the time.

    Rich fruit cake, nuttiness, and sultanas combine on the nose, followed by hints of burnt toffee, spices and dates on the palate. A long, sooty finish awaits, with a hit of dried apricot.

    This single malt celebrates Bere barley, Britain’s oldest cultivated grain. A tougher grain to work with than the norm, the result is a splendid texture. Unpeated, this was distilled in 2011 and is aged in first fill American oak ex-bourbon casks for 10 years, a mixture of Jim Bean, Jack Daniels and Clermont Springs. Then, Islay spring water is added. This expression is non-chill filtered, and colouring free. Its strength lies at 50% abv, and it is a limited edition release.

    The nose opens with a bouquet of floral aromas, with hints of citrus, barley, and apricot jam. The taste packs in a delicate array of flavours, with hints of chocolate lime, dried banana chips, apricot and malted bread. On the finish, the coastal air breezes in, a fruity character with a salty salinity arrive, holding right to the end. A fruit-punch.

    The fifth in the series of cuvees personally selected by the Head Distiller from all corners of the Bruichladdich warehouse on Islay, Black Art 5 is an unpeated Islay single malt originally distilled in 1992 and matured for 24 years. Only 12,000 individually numbered bottles have been produced, non chill-filtered at a cask strength of 48.4% abv.The nose is rich and complex with fruit notes of cherry, mango and orange, oaky vanilla and brown sugar. The palate brings a velvet smoothness with damson, mango, plum, melon and strawberry weaving through honey, tobacco and vanilla, before light stone fruits and floral notes settle on the creamy finish.

    The nose has citrus zest from limes and oranges, alongside sweeter notes of caramel and maple syrup. The palate is full of sweet oak, with nutty undertones and dried fruits flavours that continue in the finish, alongside sweet caramel shortcake.

    Unless you’ve been to the Bunnahabhain distillery and tried some of the whisky straight from the cask, you will not have tried anything like this. This Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old Cask Strength is an undiluted limited-edition dram inspired by visitor tastings in Warehouse 9. Recreate the privilege of a Bunnahabhain distillery tour at home. This is presented at 55.1% abv, free from chill filtration, and arrives with a natural cask-imparted colour. Being bottled at cask strength makes the distillery characteristics slightly more intense, with big hits of spice, black pepper, and a general enhancement of Bunnahabhain’s complex signature. A dram with a real sense of heritage.

    The nose gives aromas of a bunch of stewed berries, toasted oak, cinnamon spice, creamy vanilla, and lemon. The palate is full of sherried fruit, melted chocolate, nutmeg, cloves, and sea salt notes. A sweet, woody spice awaits on the finish, with a lingering hint of cherries.

    This Islay single malt from Bunnahabhain distillery has breathed the briny coastal air of the Sound of Islay for more than 14,000 days. Distilled in 1980, the liquid was first matured in Oloroso sherry casks before being transferred to sweet Canasta sherry oak. Only 1,200 bottles have been produced, each one at a cask strength of 49.5% abv and housed in a beautiful wooden presentation case with a quilted leather interior.There’s rich oak, dried fruits, figs, raisins and sultanas on the nose, all balanced with rich treacle, dark chocolate and vanilla. The palate has more rich oak, treacle and dried fruits, with black coffee and cocoa alongside roasted nuts and a touch of coastal brine. The finish is dry but lingering with sweet fruit and oak notes.
