Each bottle from The Last Drop Distillers comes with a miniature, often drunk before opening the full bottle or else kept as a souvenir of a wonderful whisky. For the first time, miniatures of both 50 year old releases are brought together in this “One Hundred Years of The Last Drop” set. With only 250 available worldwide, the set combines miniatures of both 50 year old expressions and is presented in a brown leather case with an engraved pewter Quaich, the traditional Scottish friendship drinking cup, and a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Named An Estate, A Community, And A Distillery, the bottle is displayed in a custom box inspired by Sir Peter Blake’s art, alongside a certificate outlining the history and heritage on which the art was based, and Sir Peter Blake’s artwork printed on a scroll.

The whisky is the colour of cinnamon, with notes of dried fruits, cracked black pepper, treacle, vanilla and a rich cacao finish.

Gordon & MacPhail have released this independent bottling of Glen Scotia as part of their MacPhail’s Collection series of single malts. This is a beautiful example of a classic sweet Campbeltown malt, bottled at 43% abv.

The aromas are sugary sweet with floral notes and dried fruit. The palate is warm and buttery with cinnamon spices and brioche buns and honeysuckle, moving to a nutty and chocolatey finish.

A harmony between coastal notes and fruity chords, this is a performance that Gordon & Macphail can be proud of. Puteney expose their storage warehouses to the fresh, clean sea air of the Caithness coastline. The result is a sumptous whisky that balances out notes of sea salt with a host of other delicate flavours, from fresh orange, to smoky, citrus notes.

Another excellent find from Duncan Taylor’s Octave range. Distilled in 2008, this single malt was aged in oak casks for 12 years before being finished for 3 months in an octave cask. This allows a much faster rate of maturation, being a very small cask. Another side effect of this is that this is a very small yield of only 85 bottles. This Speyside whisky is bottled at cask strength, 52.5% abv, and has a natural colour that has been free from chill filtration.

Expect earthy notes on the nose, with tobacco, cigar box and sherried oak. On the palate is cinnamon, ginger, toffee popcorn, and maple syrup. Clove, freshly cut grass and malty cereal all combine wonderfully on the finish, which gives more and more as it develops.

A brilliant Ben Nevis single cask whisky, named ‘The Octave’, that has been matured for 8 years in oak casks, plus a 3 month finish in an octave cask: a barrel that’s an eighth of the size of a sherry butt. It was bottled in 2021 by Duncan Taylor & Co. exclusively for The Whisky Shop at 54.8% abv with a very limited outturn of just 90 bottles. 

A fresh and slightly dry nose on this dram, followed by soft leafy notes and hints of dark fruits. The palate is warm and gentle, with sweet toffee, a touch of mochaccino and a light hint of sherried sweetness, making way for a silky smooth with a surprising hint of citrus.

This divine Dalmore single cask whisky, named ‘The Octave’, has been matured for 16 years in an octave cask: a barrel that’s an eighth of the size of a sherry butt. It was bottled in 2020 by Duncan Taylor & Co. exclusively for The Whisky Shop at 55.3% abv with a very limited outturn of just 77 bottles. 

This dynamic Dalmunach single malt has spent six years maturing in oak casks before being finished in an octave for six months. The Speyside expression was bottled in 2021 by Duncan Taylor exclusively for The Whisky Shop at 55%. This an extremely rare dram, with just 90 bottles available.

On the nose one can find fresh green fruits, citrus, and a touch of candyfloss. The palate is full of marzipan, subtle notes of fruit cake, and fresh cream. The finish has toasted almonds, apricot, and some sweet sherry notes.

An exclusive to The Whisky Shop, this single malt is a knockout from the Glen Elgin Distillery. Aged for 11 years in oak casks, this had its maturation process end with a flourish. It spent 3 months in an octave cask, a much smaller cask that allows for a much faster maturation, making a punchy, more intense dram. This was bottled in 2021 by Duncan Taylor for The Whisky Shop, and lies at a hearty cask strength 55.1% abv. The yield from this single cask expression was only 92 bottles, so we are expecting that these will be all gone pretty quickly.

You can expect the Glen Elgin character on the nose and palate, with whiffs of smoke and a characteristic Speyside fruitiness. Notes of almonds and marzipans arrive on a smooth finish, which accompanies notes of charred oak and vanilla. A splendid dram from a modest distillery.
