Loch Lomond have created The Open Special Edition 2022 to celebrate a partnership with The Open and Loch Lomond Golf Ambassador Colin Montgomerie. This years championship is in its 150th year and will be played at the world famous ‘Home of Golf’ – The Old Course at St. Andrews.

Master Distiller Michael Henry has chosen to mature this limited expression in traditional American oak casks before a finish in Bordeaux red wine barriques to add fruity character and complexity. Expect Loch Lomond’s classic fruit, honey and soft smoke character, complemented by a fresh burst of strawberry, peach and lime, a creamy fudge sweetness and lingering oak spice.

Crafted exclusively with malted barley at Loch Lomond distillery in Alexandria, this expression is distilled in a Coffey still, making it legally a single grain Scotch whisky rather than a single malt Scotch whisky. Matured in the finest oak casks, married together by Master Blender Michael Henry, this expression is bottled at 46% abv and free from chill filtration.

The barley is peated at 50ppm but due to the use of the continuous distillation, the peat smoke is not at the forefront but rather intwined with the other flavours in the profile. The nose opens with clove, sweet vanilla and some blackcurrant tartness. The palate is sweet and tangy peat with green apple, lime citrus and some anniseed with a crisp and dry finish and disntant peat smoke.

This deluxe blended Scotch whisky is crafted at Loch Lomond distillery in Alexandria, where the variety of still types allows different types of spirit to be produced. This expression uses a 100-barrel Solera system to combine the influences of Oloroso sherry casks and re-charred American oak casks. Bottled at 40% abv, this expression has been awarded a silver medal at the Hong Kong Spirit Awards.

Expect aromas of chocolate raisins and tea leaves, leading to a palate of prunes and dried apricot, with a hint of cinnamon. The finish is light, with notes of lemon peel.

This expression uses a combination of whisky from their unique Straight Neck pot stills and more traditional Swan Neck stills, and has been matured in American Oak casks, including a luxurious finish in first-fill French Chardonnay wine casks. Bottled at 46% abv, free from chill filtration and at natural colour.

Expect aromas of lemon, green apple, pear and vanilla bean on the nose, before a palate full of vibrant orchard fruit, fresh peach and pear, blossom honey and toasted oak. The lengthy finish brings touches of cinnamon spice and soft smoke, rounding off this magnificent dram nicely.

A dram as refined as the event it’s named for, this whisky was created by ambassador Colin Montgomerie and Master Blender Michael Henry as an ode to the collaborative partnership between Loch Lomond and world-renowned golf tournament, The British Open.

Bottled at 46% abv, the liquid was first matured for in American oak barrels and hogsheads before being finished in hand-selected, first-fill Chianti casks, adding layers of rich, ripe flavours to the Loch Lomond signature style. This release contains the classic Loch Lomond flavours of fruit, honey and soft smoke, with added notes of red berries and oak tannins.
