For October’s first Digital Drams we are going to be enjoying five of the eight new Diageo Special Releases. We will be joined on the night by Charlotte Barker, Diageo Malts Ambassador. Charlotte has been on a number of our Digital Drams tastings and is always an entertaining presenter.

This event is due to take place on the 3rd of October, at the usual start time of 19:30; however, it is a Tuesday rather than the usual Thursday.

The 2023 Special Releases is coined ‘Spirited Xchange’ and have been crafted by Malt Master Dr. Stuart Morrison. This year’s whiskies draw inspiration from an eclectic mix of sources that celebrate “the cultural exchange of ideas”; from Caribbean calypso to famous French fashion houses.

Each pack contains 5 x 3cl samples, featuring: 

• Lagavulin 12 Year Old The Ink of Legends
• Oban 11 Year Old The Soul of Calypso
• Talisker The Wild Explorador
• Mortlach The Katana’s Edge

Our first Digital Drams for March takes us from Islay all the way to the Orkney Islands. For the first Thursday of the month David Miles re-joins us to take us through five whiskies from Highland Park.  

The tasting will take place on the 2nd of March at 7.30pm and will focus on five releases from Highland Park (listed below).

Highland Park emphasises its wild and natural surroundings of the Orkney Islands as being the main influences of its whisky. The distillery’s remoteness, wild but mild weather and its creative people come together to create the award-winning whisky.

W Club members pay less for this tasting and shipping is included. Each pack will contain 3cl samples of:

Our next Digital Deams event is one of our more unique tastings. We have teamed up with the innovative new whisky distillery InchDairnie ahead of the release of their new Sample Room Range, launching exclusively with The Whisky Shop. We will be joined on the night by Distillery Manager Scott Sneddon who will guide us through the new range and all things InchDairnie. 

Following the successful launch of RyeLaw Fife Single Grain Scotch Whisky in April 2023, the cutting-edge InchDairnie Distillery has now released a limited-edition collection, the Sample Room Range. Specifically created to challenge Scotch whisky conventions and showcase the experimentation that takes place at the distillery in the Kingdom of Fife. 

InchDairnie Distillery pushes the boundaries of flavour through their 3 Ms philosophy: materials, method and maturation. They extract as much flavour as possible through innovative and sustainable means, in their base of Kinglassie, Fife, where industrial Scotland meets agricultural Scotland. Each release will use a unique mashbill, with all cereals sourced exclusively in Scotland, which are then ground into a fine powder using a special hammer mill and matured in a variety of specially-sourced casks – especially fresh American oak.

Each pack comes with 4 x 3cl samples of:

• InchDairnie RyeLaw Fife Single Grain Scotch Whisky
• Sample Room Range Leven (a rich rye blend comprised of 50% single distillery rye and single malt from Amontillado casks)
• Sample Room Range Balgonie (a smoke and rye blend of 74% single distillery rye and 26% peated single malt)
• Sample Room Range Pitkevy (a delicate peated single malt partially aged in Palo Cortado casks)

February’s Digital Drams takes us back to Islay. Brand Ambassador, Charlotte Barker, will take us through the whisky that has been described as the ‘King of Islay’ – the magnificent Lagavulin.

The tasting will take place on the 9th of February at 7.30pm and will focus on four releases from Lagavulin (listed below).

We will be giving away prizes of the full 70cl bottles on the night; so although the tasting is recorded, make sure you try and join live so as to not miss out on these! 

Lagavulin — ‘the definitive Islay malt’ — is located on the south-eastern shore of Islay and is one of the island’s most heavily-peated whiskies. Almost exclusively matured in ex-bourbon casks, it maintains robust, smoky, and maritime notes.

What an exciting way to spend a summer’s day! After two trips to America, we’re back on Scottish soil as we visit West Coast trailblazers Nc’nean. We’re very excited to be joined by Founder Annabel Thomas for this tasting (it’ll certainly be one to join live!). The event will take place on Thursday 8th August at the usual start time of 7:30pm.

Founder Annabel Thomas started Nc’nean to change the way the world thinks about whisky from Scotland. Her mission was to create a whisky which could exist in harmony with this planet we call home. After leaving her job in London in 2013, she spent four years raising funds and building the distillery from the ground up on the west coast of Scotland. In 2017, Nc’nean started distilling their very own organic whisky, and in 2020 their first bottle was released.

Located in the village of Drimnin on the Morvern peninsula on the West Coast of Scotland, Nc’nean is an independent whisky distillery that is powered by 100% renewable energy. They exist to create experimental, organic spirits and to pioneer sustainable production.

We’re getting into spooky season, but the only thing that is scary about our next Digital Drams is how frighteningly good value it is. For this episode of Digital Drams we are taking the long trip north to Old Pulteney, with Brand Ambassador Stuart Baxter. The event will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, 26th October.

Old Pulteney describes itself as ‘The Maritime Malt’ and was once known as ‘The Manzanilla of the North’, on account of its key-note dry and salty taste. It is a perfect aperitif. Pulteney Distillery has endured for two centuries by crafting a whisky that captures the essence of its location.
