    This Authors’ Series is a range of limited edition and exclusive single malt whisky, created by the prestigious blenders and bottlers, Hunter Laing Ltd. Each whisky has been paired with a famous author, ensuring that the unique taste and character of the malt has been inspired by the author’s life and work. Charles Dickens, Robert Lewis Stevenson, Rudyard Kipling & Edgar Allan Poe are the first four expressions that have been released.

    This particular expression is an Ardbeg 21 year old, matured in 1993 and bottled in January 2015. This limited edition whisky is one of only 120 bottles, which have been drawn from a Refill Hogshead cask, and bottled at natural cask strength of 56.4%. Ardbeg fans will not be disappointed, as this rich and peaty expression has all the typical Islay attributes, whilst the the character of Rupert Kipling shines through. Charles MacLean said: ‘Deep amber in colour with moderate beading. The first aroma is of lanolin and damp, untreated wool, even a hint of sheep dip, with roast chestnuts in the background. Oily and surprisingly sweet to taste, with fragrant woodsmoke in the aftertaste. Faintly waxy with a drop of water, backed by charred wood. Smooth and sweet, with hessian and washed out creosote.’

    Each bottle is presented in a brown leather box, embossed with gold medallic text, which adds to the luxurious feel of the product. The bottles are also individually wax sealed with a stylish monogram design.

    The nose is refreshing and refined with peppermint chocolate and black tea. Cracked black pepper, beeswax, crisp apple, and aniseed mingle on the palate. The finish is peppery, lingering, and herbaceous.

    An impressive 25 year old whisky from Ardbeg, this distinctively smoky Islay single malt Scotch will excite fans of the legendary two-hundred-year-old distillery. Unmistakably Ardbeg, the liquid has been matured entirely in ex-bourbon oak casks for its quarter of a century of aging. 

    On the nose, waves of smoke and peppermint creams come through, along with Ardbegs classic fennel and pine notes. An earthy bonfire with undertones of herbs and fruit, along with fragrant candle wax. The palate leads to flavours of spicy cracked black pepper, into a burst of sweet lemon drops. Hints of aniseed, creamy toffee plea for attention. A lingering aftertaste of creamy fudge and delicate antiseptic notes follow on the close.

    Expect intense initial aromas of charcoal, creosote and treacle toffee, with hints of fennel and celery. Herbal notes then appear alongside milk chocolate, aromatic woodsmoke and salty sea spray. On the palate, a distinctively peppery mouthfeel eases into a complex symphony of flavours; treacle toffee, aniseed, salted caramel chocolate, eucalyptus, menthol and briar wood, before giving way to more savoury notes like charcoal, smoked bacon and tar. The aftertaste is long and lingering, with a suggestion of peppermint and clove.

A soft, oily, mouthcoating texture leads into a rich, sweet, smoky palate, with hints of oak moss, treacle, aniseed lozenges and a woody/balsamic flavour, before a lingering finish of sweet smoke, with a hint of coconut on the close.

    The Unicorn’s Tale is the second edition in Ardbeg’s Anthology series, honouring Scotland’s national animal. Aged for 14 years in a combination of bourbon and madeira casks, the limited-edition Islay dram was bottled at 46% abv.

    The nose opens with aromas of baked banana bread and syrupy sponge pudding, alongside a whiff of burning cedarwood and eucalyptus oil. Zesty notes of lime and sweet peaches canter across the palate, before a burst of rich smoked fruit and baked bread prance into antiseptic lozenges, creosote, and aniseed. Soft barley malt combines with nutmeg and peat smoke, leading to a finish full of smoke, and a long and lingering aftertaste of menthol, clove, wood smoke and camphor.

    Ardbeg’s first barbeque-inspired expression, this unique Islay whisky is the work of renowned Master Distiller, Dr Bill Lumsden, and chef, Christian Stevenson (aka DJ BBQ). Matured in a combination of three toasted casks, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, double charred oak casks and BBQ casks, the result is a dram with a meaty, peaty punch. Presented at 50.9% abv.

    There’s pine and woodsmoke on the nose, alongside ripe banana and pineapple, with cocoa powder and cinnamon.     One of the distillery’s Committee Releases, Ardbeg Fermutation is a bright and zesty expression that is bound to impress. Ardbeg Fermutation is a result of a mishap at the distillery – the boiler stopped working and as a result distillation couldn’t occur after the usual 72 hour fermentation process. Instead, the wash was distilled after a three week fermentation. Free from chill filtration, this 13-year-old dram was matured in first fill and refill bourbon casks and was bottled at 49.4% abv.

    The result? A bold and vibrant whisky. Zingy aromas of peppermint and garden herbs come to meet the nose. The palate is malty, with sweet hints of butterscotch complementing the persisting minty notes before leading into the satisfying finish.

    This limited edition Islay single malt has been released to mark the 2018 Ardbeg Day at the Islay Festival of Music & Malt, an annual celebration of the Island’s greatest export. This year’s limited edition is a throwback to the Island’s 1960s spirit, embodying the ideals of ‘peat & love’! Ardbeg Grooves is crafted with ex-wine casks that are re-charred, unusually, to create deep grooves in the wood, allowing more interaction with the spirit and creating a richer flavour.The nose has intense paprika, smoked cinnamon, leather, tar and the usual Ardbeg sea spray and bonfire embers, but with the addition of a savoury note of cured meats. The palate opens with a powerful saltiness, bringing sweet treacle and vanilla, more tar and savoury barbecue notes, alongside paprika and smoked apple. The finish has a mellow sweetness with smoky paprika and bonfire embers lingering.
