Description
This limited edition Islay single malt has been released to mark the 2018 Ardbeg Day at the Islay Festival of Music & Malt, an annual celebration of the Island’s greatest export. This year’s limited edition is a throwback to the Island’s 1960s spirit, embodying the ideals of ‘peat & love’! Ardbeg Grooves is crafted with ex-wine casks that are re-charred, unusually, to create deep grooves in the wood, allowing more interaction with the spirit and creating a richer flavour. The nose has intense paprika, smoked cinnamon, leather, tar and the usual Ardbeg sea spray and bonfire embers, but with the addition of a savoury note of cured meats. The palate opens with a powerful saltiness, bringing sweet treacle and vanilla, more tar and savoury barbecue notes, alongside paprika and smoked apple. The finish has a mellow sweetness with smoky paprika and bonfire embers lingering.
