Old Malt Cask Tobermory 12 Year Old
$95.00 Availability: In StockThis single cask expression from independent bottler Hunter Laing & Co. was distilled in June 2007 at Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull. Crafted with the distillery’s peated malt barley (known as Ledaig in official bottlings from the distillery), this expression has been matured for 12 years in a single refill butt. Bottled at a preferred strength of 50% abv in September 2019, only 282 bottles have been produced.
The nose has rich peat with sea salt a a pinch of pepper. The palate brings thick peat smoke with lighter notes of lemon, pear and freshly cut grass, before a long and smoky finish.

The taste is a result of a unique wash still and the bottle reflects the maritime association and unique still shape. It has been matured in air dried hand selected casks, mostly second fill American oak, ex-bourbon casks, plus some first fill Spanish oak, ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
The distillery is situated in Wick on the tip of the North East coast of Scotland, 3 degrees further north than Moscow and was named after the Member of Parliament and Governor of the British Fisheries Society, Sir William Johnstone Pulteney. At a time when Wick was only accessible by sea, it became famous for two sources of prosperity barrels of silver (herring) and gold (whisky) which left the port in vast numbers.

Aged for 38 years in a refill American hogshead, it is bottled at a natural strength of 57.1% abv with natural colour and free from chill filtration. Limited to 103 bottles.
There are rich honey aromas with lime zest, vanilla and toffee green apple. The smooth and creamy palate opens up into honeydew melon and lemon accompanied by soft white pepper. The dram ends medium bodied with toasted oak.

Matured for more than a decade in cask #1448, this expression was selected for bottling in 2019 as a limited edition exclusively for members of The W Club. Expect notes of ripe apples, creamy chocolate and woody vanilla.

For this year’s edition, Master Distiller Michael D’Souza blended single malts from a combination of ex-Bourbon, American virgin oak and Oloroso casks before bottling this expression at 46% abv.
Festive notes of orange peel, honeycomb and plum cake fill the nose, before a deep, creamy dark chocolate appears on the palate alongside gentle barley and soft spices. The finish is rich, long and very lightly peated. A Christmas delight!

Aromas of sweet oak, delicate ripe fruitiness and dried flowers leap from the glass. The palate is soft and silky, the sweet taste rich in notes of vanilla that perfectly match the classic green, creamy and fruity distillery character. It becomes drying in the development, while the smooth, warming finish closes with a final sweet flourish.
