    Released to mark the Jura open day at the 2017 Islay Festival of Music and Malt, this limited edition from the eponymous Island distillery marries some of the finest aged spirits in the Jura warehouse, enhanced in first-fill American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels and hand-selected Graham’s Port pipes from the Douro Valley region of Portugal. Each bottle is uniquely numbered, free from chill-filtration and bottled at a natural strength of 51% abv.Crimson mahogany flashes in an amber gold liquid. The nose has rich Black Forest fruits, liquorice whips, ripe plums and delicious white chocolate. The palate is reminiscent of a slice of walnut cake with glazed pineapple, orange zest and crème de cassis.

    This Island single malt was distilled at the eponymous Jura distillery, the only distillery on the Hebridean island. This expression has been matured in American white oak bourbon barrels and enhanced in hand-selected sherry casks that previously held a 30-year-old Pedro Ximenez sherry from a single estate Jerez bodega. Part of the Travel Retail exclusive range, The Loch is named for the distillery’s water source, Market Loch, which sits 1000 feet above sea level.

    A small portion of peated malt lends a subtle smoke to the sweet bourbon cask influence and the richness of the PX casks. It opens rich and sweet with thick treacle on the nose. The palate brings praline and baked apple with a touch of coffee, before a fruity note in the spicy finish.

    The first release in the Two-One-Two series of annual limited editions, this Island single malt was distilled at Jura in 2006 and matured for 13 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in casks made from Chinkapin oak, a type of wood native to east and central North America. This series celebrates the Jura community of around 212 islanders.

    The nose is sweet with lemon drizzle cake, cinnamon spice and creamy toffee. The palate has stewed fruits and sweet sherbet with notes of pear and roast pistachio, before a long and satisfying finish.

    Established in 2005, Kilchoman is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Based on a farm on the rugged west coast of Islay, Kilchoman is the first distillery to be built on the Island for 125 years. Kilchoman gives everyone the chance to see what is best about the grass-roots traditions of malt distilling. As well as being one of only a handful of distilleries still practicing floor malting, a percentage of their own barley is grown at the distillery, completing all parts of the production process at the distillery – from barley to bottling – called the Kilchoman 100% Islay. The 100% Islay range is what Kilchoman is all about. Kilchoman is based on a farm and 100 tonnes of Barley is grown in the fields surrounding the Distillery. The 100% Islay is a lighter and fresher whisky with citrus flavours which are distinctive to Kilchoman’s new make.

    Kilchoman 100% Islay does exactly what it says on the tin; this expression offers a unique single malt produced entirely on Islay, on one farm, from barley to bottle. 100% Islay is the only whisky in Scotland that can claim this. 

    The tenth release was distilled from barley varieties grown at Kilchoman in 2007, 2009 and 2010, before being matured in a combination of 39 bourbon barrels and 2 oloroso sherry butts for a minimum of 9 years. Bottled in 2020 at 50% ABV and 20ppm, just 12,400 bottles have been produced, with each cask personally selected for the release by distillery founder, Anthony Wills.

    The nose has sweet and citrusy notes, followed by autumnal flavours of baked apples and pears and cinnamon on the palate. Mildly spiced peat smoke fills the palate and lingers on in the finish.

    This Kilchoman 100% Islay is exactly what it describes itself to be. Not happy with just being from Islay, this innovative farm distillery do every step of the whisky-making process on the island. Using barley grown on the island, they then mature the spirit in a mixture of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry butts. The 11th edition of this single malt, this is free from chill filtration and has a natural colour.

    Vanilla ice-cream, dried spices, floral notes and dried fruits all harmonise on the nose. Malty bread, cinnamon, ginger, and baked apples appear on a sweet palate. The finish is rich, with a new twist of peat smoke and orange peel.

    This single cask expression from Kilchoman, Islay’s farm distillery, was distilled on 20th July 2007 and matured in a bourbon cask (#150/2007) for almost eleven years before bottling on 11th June 2018. This Islay single malt has been bottled exclusively for The Whisky Shop at a natural cask strength of 56.5% abv, with just 238 bottles produced, each one individually numbered.The nose has waves of smoky notes, combining with layers of spice, vanilla and fresh citrus. The palate brings honey, tropical fruits, butterscotch, earthy malt and further layers of smoke. The finish has a whisper of peat smoke with tangy orange and hints of liquorice.

    This limited release brought to you from the Kilchoman Distillery has taken its inspiration from Loch Gorm, the very dark and peaty waters located to the north of the distillery, similar to the dark rich colour of this sherry cask matured single malt.

    Part of the Kilchoman range since it was first introduced in 2012, the Loch Gorm releases are unique as they are matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks from the farm distillery. Exclusively matured in oloroso sherry casks this whisky takes strong flavour influences from the cask that it has been aged in.

    The nose is bursting with notes of dried fig, orange peel and sea salt that run alongside quite hints of bacon, cinnamon and oak spice. Sweet flavours of plums, chocolate and salted caramel dance across the palate alongside a wet peat smoke flavour that adds the perfect balance to the malt. The finish teases flavours of cooked apples and dark chocolate before finishing on a dramatic burst of barbeque smoke.

    With only 15,000 bottles released this single cask bottling is sure to fly off the shelf.

    Named after the body of water which the distillery resides by, Loch Gorm is a sherry matured expression released annually by Kilchoman in limited numbers. Loch Gorm 2021 is a vatting of 24 Oloroso sherry butts filled in 2011 and 2012 which impart rich fruits, spiced dark chocolate and melted brown sugar notes into the whisky which balances with that delicious Kilchoman heavy peat smoke we all know and love…well, at least many do!

    Only 17,000 bottles were produced in this limited run. Bottled at 46% ABV, free from chill filtration and naturally coloured. Lemon peel and creamy shortbread up front on the aromas give way to a whisp of peat smoke and warming spices. Rich chocolate, juicy dates and clove on the palate with toasted almonds and peat smoke throughout, finishing in herbel, earthy leather and dry red fruits.
