An exceptional single malt from Dalwhinnie. Released as part of the Distillers Edition series, this expression was distilled in 2006 and was double matured in Oloroso sherry casks before being bottled in 2021 at 43% abv. 

Peaty, spicy, and oaky notes on the nose combine beautifully with sweet honey. The palate is rich and sweet, full of vanilla and grape which linger in the extremely dry finish.

To celebrate the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Diageo have collaborated with HBO to release a limited edition collection of eight single malt Scotch whiskies inspired by each of the Houses of Westeros and the Night’s Watch.

The lords of House Stark ruled as King in the North for generations, in the vast cold expanse of the northern lands of Westeros. The Stark’s resilience, strength and ability to thrive in the most intense situations are greatly shaped by Winterfell’s frigid temperatures. Like House Stark, Dalwhinnie is made in one of the highest and coldest distilleries in Scotland, and its extreme conditions are responsible for shaping its signature flavour.

Matured in 100% ex-bourbon casks, this Highland single malt has a uniquely floral, honeyed character. The palate has rich manuka honey and fresh figs, developing into malt balls before a rich fruit cake finish.

An independent and delicious sherried bottling of Auchriosk single malt from Darkness. This 21-year-old expression has been finished in a specially-coopered Moscatel sherry octave cask, allowing for huge sherry-bomb notes, before being bottled at 53.3% abv.

The nose has freshly baked apple pie, honeycomb, dried fruits and strawberry jam, making way for festive spices on the palate and more sweetness. The taste is nutty and citrusy, with a crackle of black pepper in the finish. 

An independent, and delicious sherried bottling of Aultmore single malt from Darkness. This 22-year-old expression has been finished in an Oloroso sherry octave cask, allowing for huge sherry-bomb notes, before being bottled at 41.9% abv.

The nose has a touch of oak, with dried fruits and sweet vanilla. Dried pineapple appears on the palate, followed by dark chocolate and a hint of spice. The finish has more oak, leather and orange oil. 

This Blair Athol 14 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish is a fantastic find. Independently bottled in the Darkness range, this one is a sherried celebration of the Pitlochry distillery. This has spent 14 years maturing, which includes a six month finish in Oloroso sherry octave casks. These tiny casks allow for a huge uptake in flavour. Like all expressions in the Darkness range, this single malt whisky is free from chill filtration and artificial colouration.

The nose is one of freshly baked shortbread, fudge chocolate, and almonds. Bitter cocoa, juicy orange, sultanas, and toasted oak all arrive on the palate. The finish is long and punchy, with nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and a sweet caramel characteristic.

An independent bottling from Darkness of Capernoch single malt, now a closed distillery. This 23-year-old expression has been finished in a specially-coopered Oloroso sherry octave cask, allowing for huge sherry-bomb notes, before being bottled at a strong 54% abv.

The aromas on the nose are powerful, with black cherries and tobacco, followed by a hint of toasted oak. Stewed plums, Damson jam and poached pears are delicious on the palate, with sticky toffee pudding, vanilla ice cream and shortbread too. The oak lasts and lasts on the palate, with an aftertaste of sherry-soaked fruit. 

Distilled at Craigellachie, this 11-year-old single malt expression was left to the chaps at Darkness for a final twist. Namely, a finishing period in Oloroso sherry octave casks. A very punchy 55.5% abv, this limited edition dram is full to the brim with a sweet, fruity, characteristically Speyside influence.

The nose is an enticing one: expect savoury notes, a gentle waft of sea salt, and some sweet tropical fruits. Rich, oily malt makes itself present on the palate, along with waves of honeycomb, caramel, and a little clove spice. The finish is herbaceous, with a lingering forest floor note.

A Whisky Shop exclusive from Craigellachie not for the faint hearted. Limited to only 90 bottles, this 12-year-old sherry bomb has been finished in an Oloroso octave – a small cask that allows more of the spirit to interact with the cask while maturing – to help create a whisky that boasts flavours of honey, dates, apples, and roast ham with syrup glaze. Left at a cask strength of 52.5% ABV, it is big, it is rich and it was selected especially for our customers at The Whisky Shop. Please note that this is a 50cl bottling.
