  • The Naked Malt

    The Naked Malt

    $28.00 Availability: In Stock

The Naked Malt was one of the last creations of the company’s long-serving Master Blender, John Ramsay, who retired after forty years shortly before the whisky was released. For two and a half years before retiring last year, John worked with his designated successor, Gordon Motion, who also played an important role in creating The Naked Malt, and bears responsibility for its continuing flavour profile, along with other expressions of the brand. The Macallan and Highland Park are central to the make up of The Naked Malt, which is then ‘matured in the finest sun dried sherry oak casks’, according to the company’s website. It is presented in a plain bottle, with a barrel embossed in the glass, so the whisky’s rich colour may be admired.

A deep amber hue; a base note of fragrant wood (cigar box, dusty drawer, sawn oak), with dried fruits and fragrant cooking spices (all spice, nutmeg, mace). A rich, smooth texture and a sweet taste, drying slightly in the finish, with juicy fruits (macerated dried figs), and dark chocolate-covered coffee beans in the spicy aftertaste. A blend for malt lovers.

  • The Octave Ardmore 2010 11 Year Old

The Octave Ardmore 2010 11 Year Old

    $115.00 Availability: In Stock

This Ardmore 2010 is completely exclusive to The Whisky Shop. This special bottling is a dram that was chosen by us, and after a taste we think you will be able to see why. This is a peated single malt whisky that lives in the space in-between with multi-faceted flavours. It uses a traditional style of peating that produces a lightly peated spirit. Part of the Octave series, this then spent a final six months finishing period in a tiny octave cask, imparting a great depth of character to the liquid. It aged for 11 years in oak casks, being awoken from its slumber in 2021. A run of just 76 bottles has been produced. We think this spirit captures the essence of what makes Ardmore such a unique and cherished home of whisky. It walks the tightrope between sweet, spicy, and richness superbly. This cask strength dram arrives without chill filtration or artificial colouring.

On the nose one can find aromas of honey, cinnamon spice, and a waft of peat smoke. The palate is full of sweet honey, smoky charcoal notes, creamy vanilla, and vague hints of spicy notes. The finish is full bodied, silky smooth, and wonderfully lingering.

This Speyside whisky is bottled at cask strength, 52.5% abv, and has a natural colour that has been free from chill filtration.

Expect earthy notes on the nose, with tobacco, cigar box and sherried oak. On the palate is cinnamon, ginger, toffee popcorn, and maple syrup. Clove, freshly cut grass and malty cereal all combine wonderfully on the finish, which gives more and more as it develops.
