  • Old Pulteney 2010 #1802

    Old Pulteney 2010 #1802

    $132.00 Availability: In Stock
An unusual example of the make. Very deep amber, with ruby lights; a polished conker. Some nose prickle, as expected at this strength. The top notes suggest European oak maturation – malt loaf, mixed dried fruits, kitchen spices (allspice, mace, nutmeg). A smooth texture and a sweetish, spicy taste; medium length finish with dried fruits in the aftertaste.

Known as the Maritime Malt, the distillery location is key. The taste is a result of a unique wash still and the bottle reflects the maritime association and unique still shape. As with the 17 Year Old, with this expression the distillery marries together Old Pulteney matured in ex-bourbon casks with spirits from ex-Oloroso sherry casks, second fill American oak, plus some Spanish oak first fill.

The distillery is situated in Wick on the tip of the North East coast of Scotland, 3 degrees further north than Moscow and was named after the Member of Parliament and Governor of the British Fisheries Society, Sir William Johnstone Pulteney. At a time when Wick was only accessible by sea, it became famous for two sources of prosperity: barrels of silver (herring) and gold (whisky) which left the port in vast numbers.

    Paddy

    $35.00 Availability: In Stock
In 1920s and 1930s Ireland, whiskey was sold in casks from the distillery to wholesalers, who would in turn sell it on to publicans. Cork Distilleries Company was very proud of the strong reputation which its whiskey had earned and wanted to prevent any fluctuation in whiskey quality due to bonder underhandedly diluting the casks. Thus the company was one of the first to bottle their whiskey, which became known as Paddy. Paddy Whiskey is distilled three times from the finest quality barley and water. This ensures a whiskey, which is particularly light, well balanced and pure. Its relatively low pot-still content and uniquely high proportion of malt whiskey, ensures Paddy is one of the softest of all Ireland’s whiskeys.
