The Glenlivet 80 Year Old Generations Gordon & MacPhail

    $90,000.00 Availability: In Stock

The oldest single malt whisky ever bottled, this whisky is a symbol for the entire industry. On the 3rd of February 1940, George Urquhart and his father, John, began the creation of this legacy defining whisky. As the world entered the Second World War, it was through the tremendous foresight of the Urquhart’s that this dram was brought into the world. The Glenlivet Distillery was chosen as the resting place, and this cask was matured for a stunning 80 years. The cask of choice was a first fill sherry butt, chosen by Gordon & Macphail. It was awoken from its spectacular slumber on the 5th of February 2020, being bottled at 44.9% abv. 250 bottles have been produced, and it goes without saying this is one of the most collectable bottles of all time.

The design for the bottle and presentation box was done by Sir David Adjaye OBE, internationally renowned architect and designer. The decanter and glassware have been specially produced by Glencairn Crystal Studio, the pavilion oak case coming from Wardour Workshops in Dorset, England.

On the nose arises aromas of scented hand soap, gorse, almonds, sandalwood, and a distinctly summer feel. The palate is oily, lightly sweet to start, with an elegant drying period, followed by hints of menthol. This menthol comes back on the finish, which is vibrant, engaging, and quite simply incredible. We could not be prouder to offer such a dram.
