The Balvenie Malt Master, David Stewart, crafts The Balvenie Forty by skilfully marrying together casks that have lain undisturbed in the warehouses for at least forty years. Different cask types impart different characteristics, bringing together a perfect harmony of fruit, spice, sweetness, citrus and oak to create a Balvenie of the very highest order.

The third installment of The Balvenie Fifty: Marriage series. Showcasing The Balvenie’s malt master David Stewart’s rich knowledge and unique skill, this is a rarely attempted marriage of the most precious, most mature stocks in The Balvenie Distillery. David’s latest achievement, this incorporates new casks from the five used in the Marriage 0197, released in 2019. The final liquid is bottled at 46% abv, and is free from chill filtration and colouring. A marriage of seven casks of varying degrees, the casks comprise both American and European Oak.

Every bottle of The Balvenie Fifty: Marriage 0614 is presented in a luscious wooden canister, created using elm trees found at the grounds of The Balvenie Distillery. It also includes a gold-plated certificate and bottle glorifier, inscribed with the full array of tasting notes.

The nose has deep dark spices, rich fruit cake, elegant oak, and sweeter aromas of dried fruits, raisins, ginger, and sultanas. The palate is rich and lush, with bitter chocolate, hints of honey and intense spice. The finish is rich and mouth coating with sweet and oaky spiced notes.

‘Unusually roasted grain tells a brittle tale…’ This 26-year-old single malt hails from The Balvenie distillery in Speyside. Crafted with an unusual batch of dark, brittle barley in the summer of 1992, this expression is the fruit of an experiment by Malt Master David C. Stewart and has been released as part of The Balvenie Stories series.

Bottled free from chill filtration at a strength of 47.8% abv, this unusual release is described as a heavier Balvenie, flavoured with the richness of over-roasted malted barley, oak, honey, vanilla and citrus notes.

This single malt Scotch is part of The Balvenie Stories series from the renowned Speyside distillery. Inspired by Malt Master David C. Stewart’s experimentation with barley and heather grown in the distillery grounds, this expression has been matured for 19 years and bottled at 48.7% abv.

The nose has lively notes of fig, geranium oil and herbal notes with freshly cut grass. The palate has sweet notes of honey, cloves and baked dates, alongside a delicate citrus and oak spice. Oak and dried blossom linger in the finish.

This edition of The Balvenie’s Stories range is a 21-year-old single malt. From the Banffshire distillery comes The Second Red Rose, a celebration of the history of Balvenie as well as the history of the surrounding region. This expression is finished in Australian Shiraz casks, which gives it a beautiful burgundy hue. It is free from chill filtration and arrives at a strength of 48.1% abv.

Intense ripe fruits combine with robust earthy tones on the nose, accompanied by fragrant mango and subtle oak. A berry sweetness arrives on the palate, with ripe peach, toasted oak and black pepper. This oakiness reveals itself on the finish, in a sumptuous, lingering experience.

A colourful tale of legend and legacy, one for special people and special occasions.

A marriage as complex as this could only be presided over by Malt Master David Stewart MBE. To create this eight and final batch of the Balvenie Tun 1509, David hand-selected 18 of the finest casks in Balvenie’s stocks. Four ex-bourbon barrels, six second fill Sherry butts, five refill puncheons, and three new sherry butts were all married together in a traditional marrying Tun for three months. The resulting expression, free from chill filtration and presented at 52.2% abv, is a sensational last hurrah.

One can find notes that reminds one of home-made baking, such as baked lemon tart, orange marmalade, sweet maple syrup and a certain nuttiness. The palate is rich, with big decadent notes of toffee, dried spices, toasted oak, and buttery vanilla. The finish has notes of freshly planed oak, and lingers for a wonderfully long time.
