Digital Drams: Lagavulin The King of Islay Virtual Tasting
$25.00 Availability: In StockFebruary’s Digital Drams takes us back to Islay. Brand Ambassador, Charlotte Barker, will take us through the whisky that has been described as the ‘King of Islay’ – the magnificent Lagavulin.
The tasting will take place on the 9th of February at 7.30pm and will focus on four releases from Lagavulin (listed below).
We will be giving away prizes of the full 70cl bottles on the night; so although the tasting is recorded, make sure you try and join live so as to not miss out on these!Â
Lagavulin — ‘the definitive Islay malt’ — is located on the south-eastern shore of Islay and is one of the island’s most heavily-peated whiskies. Almost exclusively matured in ex-bourbon casks, it maintains robust, smoky, and maritime notes.

This event is hosted on Zoom. You’ll receive a link to the event in your tasting pack and by email prior to the event. If you join before the event is due to start you’ll enter the waiting room until being admitted to the tasting with all other participants.
Can’t attend on the night? Don’t worry! Our events are recorded and the video made publicly available the day after the tasting. The recording can then be accessed via the link in the pack, so you can purchase and enjoy in your own time or give as a gift to be enjoyed any time!

A limited edition, natural cask strength single malt whisky from the essential Islay distillery, Lagavulin, on Islay’s rocky south coast. It is the thirteenth in a series of special 12 year old releases from the original distiller’s stocks.
Vatted from refill American Oak casks, each at least 12 years old, this is a perfect introduction to the Special Releases.
Very pale gold in colour and a surprisingly mild nose-feel, with initial egg custard or sour cream notes. These soon give way to more familiar Lagavulin scents of natural varnish, ash and smouldering bonfire, against a background of tart redcurrants. A thin texture and a surprisingly mild taste, but with big character: sweet, salty and sour (lime zest?) in the middle, and heaps of smoke in the back. A resinous aftertaste.

Filled to refill American oak hogsheads to mature, this limited edition, cask strength bottling is only available in limited quantities worldwide.A clean and fresh nose, with intense sweetness and prickly smoke, green earthy tones emerge with liquorice and smoky bacon, before a fruitier influence develops. The palate is rich and sweet at natural cask strength, with liquorice and golden syrup infused with a savoury smoke of burning leaves and smoked meat. The finish is sweet with a lingering smoky aftertaste. -

The palate is oily with with a sweet taste, before a strong and salty finish with plenty of Islay smoke. -
Lagavulin 12 Year Old Diageo Special Release 2021
$128.00 Availability: In StockA headliner Lagavulin. This 12-year-old expression alludes to Lagavulin as the King of Islay. This single malt was matured in refill American oak casks and was distilled in 2008. Coming in at 56.5% abv, this cask strength expression is free from chill filtration and artificial colouring. Known as the ‘fiercest and smokiest’ scotch in the Diageo’s Special Releases, this is a dram with a big, peaty, hearty soul to it.
The nose is relatively mild, with a fresh sea breeze smell, accompanied by seaweed, sweetness, and a wisp of wood-smoke. The palate is smooth, with a sweet taste turning acidic as the flavour develops. Expect a grand finale of smoke, with big recurring waves of wood-smoke, chilli pepper, and sweetness.

A spark from the sky setting the land ablaze, a regal Phoenix then rose from the ash and smoke, soaring above the distillery; its wings of fire powering the stills of Lagavulin…Virigin oak casks shine in this expression, their spice pairing with the intense peatiness of this 12-year-old, bottled at a powerful 57.3% abv.
Aromas of dry peat, charcoal, spice and sweetness leads to an oily, sweet and salty palate with lemon acidity, finishing up with more intense smoke and spice.

$167.00 Availability: In StockPale gold with green lights; moderate beading. The top notes are phenolic – both medicinal (surgical spirit, carbolic) and smoky (smouldering barbecue). Hiding beneath these are fruity notes (ripe plum, apricot) and a suggestion of salt crystals. The taste is sweet and slightly salty, with a smoky and spicy finish. Perhaps a hint of mezcal in the aftertaste? -

Fresh aromas of sea air, citrus and ripened berries are cut by an intense herbal smoke on the nose, while the creamy-smooth palate brings flavours of sweet plums, herbal smoke and touches of salt.

Demand heavily exceeds supply, as it is highly regarded as being one of the best whiskies in the world – with a substantial fanbase. The intense character comes from their own richly peaty water supply; the heavily peated barley; the unusually long fermentation – up to 75 hours; and the slowest distillation of any Islay malt.
A classic Lagavulin with elements of smoke, peat and spice. The nose opens with punchy Islay smoke, with hints of iodine, sweet spice and vanilla, leading to a rich palate bursting with malt, dried fruit, oak and earthy peat. The finish is long and spicy, with more peat smoke and vanilla.

It was bottled for the European Lagavulin Fans; Boris Borisov, Floris Kooistra, Bram van Glabbeek, Sebastian Jaeger, Ronny Wettervik and Rolf-Harald Haugen as a part of a private sale of individual casks known as Casks of Distinction.Â
Hand selected by a team of whisky experts under guidance from Master Blender Dr. Craig Wilson, each cask is totally unique and very rare. This one had an outtrun of just 158 bottles.Â
