    Released to celebrate the 21st Islay Jazz Festival in 2019, this limited edition single malt has been matured for 21 years in a combination of refill and re-charred American oak hogsheads before bottling at a strength of 50.1% abv. Just 2,0004 bottles were released in 2019 as the eighth expression in the series.

    The nose is smoky and briny with a strong maritime note. The palate has crispy smoked bacon and gunpowder with a hint of eucalyptus emerging, before a long and satisfying finish.

Matured exclusively in ex-sherry casks and bottled at a natural cask strength, this is the first 25 year old expression since Diageo’s Special Releases series in 2002.With tasting notes of “bitter-sweet and gingery” and “intense, with masses of charred wood, oak-smoked meats, honey, burnt treacle tart and ash,” this is expression is sure to delight fans of the Islay distillery as a fitting celebration of its history and legacy.

    This dram that demands pride and place. The jewel in the crown of the King of Islay, this is a big expression in every way. The first 26-year-old Lagavulin Special Release, this matured in first fill PX and first-fill Oloroso sherry seasoned casks. At 44.2% abv, this is a cask strength dram with a deep respect for the sherry cask style. Distilled in 1994, this is a flagship Islay whisky.

    Winey aromas features alongside linseed oil, vinous top notes fading into butterscotch and smokiness on the nose. The palate has medium body, with an ultra-smooth, oily texture, capturing that precious sweet-smoky flavour that Lagavulin masters so well. The finish is long, sweetly warming, faintly smoky, with little hints of chanterelle mushrooms in a drying aftertaste.

    2016 marks the 200th anniversary of one whiskies most loved distilleries – Lagavulin. To celebrate this remarkable milestone Lagavulin have launched a delightful limited edition bottle which is now available to order with The Whisky Shop. The inspiration behind the whisky – Back in the 1880’s Alfred Barnard (a world famous historian) visited the distillery and fell in love with an 8 year old expression which he described as ‘exceptionally fine’ 200 years later Lagavulin have created a whisky to help celebrate the last 200 years and to recreate the character of the whisky enjoyed all those years ago. Matured using a combination of European and American Oak casks and bottled at 48% volume.

    Tasting notes

    Pale gold with faint green lights, American oak refill casks, light bodied. Powerfully phenolic, carbolic soap, backed by smouldering peat with bergamot; nose-drying and maritime (road salt, iodine). A thin texture, but a full-on Lagavulin taste: sweet, smoky, warming, with a very long finish and a lingering aftertaste of smoke.

    To celebrate the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Diageo have collaborated with HBO to release a limited edition collection of eight single malt Scotch whiskies inspired by each of the Houses of Westeros and the Night’s Watch.This 9-year-old Islay single malt from Lagavulin is the standard bearer for House Lannister, one of the richest and oldest dynasties in the Seven Kingdoms. The Lannister’s rise to the Iron Throne took years of meticulous calculation and tenacity, much like Lagavulin’s rise to legendary status, which has been over 200 years in the making.Matured exclusively in 100% first-fill ex-bourbon casks, this expression has an explosion of sweet smoke on the nose, with a touch more zesty maritime brine than the standard Lagavulin expressions. The palate brings a sweet, smoky caramelised banana note, with toasted marshmallow and vanilla, before a dry menthol and salted caramel finish.

    Each Lagavulin Distillers Edition expression undergoes a second, or double, maturation in casks that have previously held a fortified wine. This is the 2003 vintage, which used Pedro Ximinez sherry casks for the second maturation period before bottling in 2019. A really distinctive and distinguished dram, full of peat while the Pedro Ximinez sherry wood naturally has a big say. A more mellow Lagavulin, not quite as deep or intensely flavoured as the 16 year old.

    Presenting the 2022 release of Lagavulin Distillers Edition. The Islay giants have double matured their spirit in Pedro Ximénez seasoned American oak casks, bringing bursts of sweet fruits which perfectly complement the signature coastal smokiness of their liquid. Bottled at 43% abv. 

    Expect waves of earthy peat on the nose, along with hints of fig and vanilla bean. The palate brings maritime smoke, salted caramel and sherry, with a lingering finish full of oak spice and peat.
