    Every year since 1984, Midleton Distillery has released a single vintage expression that represents the very best of what’s been quietly ageing in its warehouses. The 2026 edition continues that tradition with characteristic confidence, with a blend of five distillate styles, bringing together three single pot still whiskeys and two single grain expressions.

    This year’s release leans into balance and brightness. The grain components bring floral notes of rose petal and geranium, alongside crème brûlée richness from older bourbon casks, with a particularly interesting barley-and-malted-barley grain whiskey adding butterscotch and toffee to the mix. The pot still elements do what Irish pot still whiskey does best: creamy texture, citrus peel, gentle warming spice.

    On the nose: orange peel and lemon zest open things up, followed by apricot, orchard fruit, and soft floral hints. The palate is smooth and generous, with vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and a deep butterscotch sweetness. The finish is long and warming, with pot still spice slowly giving way to fruit and seasoned oak.

    Created using a combination of grain whisky from Nikka’s Coffey stills with malt whiskies sourced primarily from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, the liquids were aged to an average of 10 years in a fascinating variety of cask types. The final result was precisely blended and married for an extra 3-6 months before being bottled at 51.4% abv.

    On the nose, notes of honey, beeswax and tropical pineapple along with nutmeg and ginger. There is also a gentle, elegant smoky character with a rich earthiness. On the palate there is candied lemon and cocoa powder along with roasted cereals and plum jam ending with a flinty, salty peat note.

    Expect aromas of dark chocolate, dried fruits, mixed spice and hazelnut, leading to a bold palate of more rich cocoa and hazelnuts, with raisins and peppery spices which linger on for a spicy finish.
