It’s easy to see that the designers of this bottle have excelled themselves, but it’s even better to hear the distillery have to. Nc’nean are an independent, organic whisky distillery that exist to experiment. This expression has matured in specially treated red wine and American whiskey barrels. Using organic Scottish barley, this small batch bottle makes a big impression. Arriving at 46% abv, this is free from chill filtration and has a natural colour. It is made from a recycled glass bottle, and the distillery is known for recycling 99.97% of their waste. This particular expression is presented in a gorgeous gift tube that is also fully recyclable. All very impressive to us.

Aromas of citrus, tropical fruit and a kick of pepper arrive on the nose. The palate is full of peach, pineapple, lemongrass, malted barley, all in a creamy, smooth character. The finish is dry, with peppery ginger and spicy, earthy notes. A fruity whisky, with a bit of depth behind it.

Bottled exclusively for us at The Whisky Shop, this single malt from our friends at Nc’nean distillery has been matured within a single STR Red Wine Cask. Named Aon, gaelic for one, as a part of their collection of single cask bottlings, the whisky is presented at a cask strength of 57.3% abv.  Just 313 bottles were drawn from the cask.

Expect flavours of freshly baked cinnamon rolls, clotted cream and wild raspberries.

New for 2024 as part of their Quiet Rebels series, Nc’nean Organic Quiet Rebels Amy is in tribute to the distillery’s Head of Sustainability, Amy Stammers. With such an eco-conscious team as Nc’nean, it’s easy to understand why blender Matt Hastings chose Amy as the figurehead to partner with on this release.

Bottled at 48.5% abv, this non-chill filtered and natural colour liquid was finished in ex-Maury casks from a small organic vineyard in France, a farm which follows the biodynamic principles such as following the lunar calendar. These casks were then blended with Nc’nean house style STR red wine and ex-Bourbon casks to create this moreish release. Expect notes of brown butter muffins, citrus, toasted nuts, and savoury flavours.

The fifth release in Nc’nean’s much-loved ‘Quiet Rebels’ series, this release is a celebration of yet another integral person at the Nc’Nean distillery, Simon, one of their distillers.

This organic single malt was first matured in shaved, toasted, and re-charred red wine casks. A self-confessed beer enthusiast, Simon’s selected finishing casks for this release are something truly special – stout casks from Scottish brewing legends Innis & Gunn, which, in a lovely full-circle moment, had originally held Nc’nean whisky. The result is a rich and indulgent dram, full of depth and character.

Bottled at 48.5% ABV, the whisky opens with aromas of chocolate brioche and coffee fudge cake, followed by a palate layered with sweet cherry jam, cocoa, and gentle baking spice. The texture is smooth and mouth-filling, with a warming finish that lingers beautifully.

The latest addition to Nc’nean’s beloved ‘Quiet Rebels’ series celebrating key players in the Nc’Nean Distillery. This release celebrates Sarah, who heads up the distillery’s bottling operations and has a well-known love for all things sweet. For her release, Nc’nean has crafted something completely new, a rich and creamy whisky liqueur that brings together their signature organic single malt Scotch whisky and organic oats to create a luxurious, dairy-free indulgence.

Bottled at 20% ABV, this liqueur is full-bodied, glossy, and wonderfully smooth, with Nc’nean’s single malt adding depth and character throughout. On the nose and palate, notes of crème brûlée, spiced honeycomb, and chocolate mousse unfold beautifully, leading to a finish that’s rich, sweet, and perfectly balanced.

Released as a part of That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s Cinema Labels collection, this five-year-old expression from Nc’nean has been aged in an STR red wine cask. Based in the Western Highlands, Nc’nean is the first fully organic distillery powered by 100% renewable energy in Scotland. ‘Whisky Galore’ is the movie inspiration behind this label, which shows distillery founder Annabel Thomas leading her group carrying ‘Doug Treats’ (Doug being the premises resident dog). Presented at a natural cask strength of 60.1% abv.

Expect fragrant aromas of British summer hedgerows, nectarines, peaches, ripe apples, honey and some gentle spices. More sweet peaches come though on the palate, along with vanilla custard, summer grasses, liquorice and mixed spice. The short finish is sweet and fruity.
