Bottled as part of the First Cask series, it has been distilled at Craigellachie distillery in Speyside. Distilled in October 1978 it has been matured for 16 years in a single cask before being bottled at 46% abv. with an individual bottle number stated on each.

If you’ve cracked peaty malts, now it’s time to try Craigellachie’s meaty malt. Non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring, the 23 year old expression is mellow and voluptuous.

Chardonnay in colour, from American oak casks. A deeply mellow aroma, with putty and woodsmoke, behind the scented soap noted in the 17YO. A voluptuous texture, and all these scents are translated into tastes. A drop of water develops both aroma and taste, now slightly mentholated. An unusual and delicious dram.

Created exclusively for The Whisky Shop, be aware that this is only available while stocks last. This is a standout Darkness Craigellachie 11 Year Old single malt whisky. Included within its 11 year maturation is a finishing period in a Moscatel sherry cask, which has imparted a sumptuous richness. This limited edition is, like all Darkness releases, cask strength, and free from artificial colouring and chill filtration. A release of only 80 bottles, this is a superb single cask dram.

Shoe polish, leather, aniseed, and cinnamon aromas arise on the nose. The palate is sweet, fruity, and becomes nutty with a mouth coating texture. The finish fades into vanilla, oak, and hazelnut. A beautifully balanced gem.

Distilled at Craigellachie, this 11-year-old single malt expression was left to the chaps at Darkness for a final twist. Namely, a finishing period in Oloroso sherry octave casks. A very punchy 55.5% abv, this limited edition dram is full to the brim with a sweet, fruity, characteristically Speyside influence.

The nose is an enticing one: expect savoury notes, a gentle waft of sea salt, and some sweet tropical fruits. Rich, oily malt makes itself present on the palate, along with waves of honeycomb, caramel, and a little clove spice. The finish is herbaceous, with a lingering forest floor note.

Distilled at Craigellachie distillery in Speyside, this single cask expression was laid down in 2006 and matured in a refill barrel for 12 years before bottling in 2019. Part of the First Editions range from Glasgow’s Hunter Laing & Co., this expression is limited to just 256 bottles.

The nose is sweet with dark chocolate, red plums and toffee. The palate brings sweet notes of orange, caramel and a touch of mocha, before a long and lingering finish with a hint of pepper.

This 10-year-old single cask expression has been bottled by family-run independent bottler Hunter Laing & Co. as part of their First Edition series. Distilled in 2008 at Craigellachie in Speyside, this single malt has been matured for a decade in a single sherry cask. Bottled in 2019 at a preferred strength of 46% abv, just 240 of these bottles were filled.

The nose has sweet strawberries and toffee apples. The palate brings more sweet berries with blackberries and an oaky spice. The finish is long and spicy with a lingering pepper note.

This Speyside single malt was distilled at Craigellachie in 2008 and matured for 10 years in a single sherry hogshead. Selected by Simone, our Paternoster shop manager, and bottled at a strength of 46% abv, only 264 bottles have been produced as part of the First Editions series from independent bottler Hunter Laing & Co.Vanilla custard and white pepper on the nose, with dusty malt and citrus. The palate brings sweet toffee, fresh oak and walnuts. The finish is sweet with oak, vanilla and liquorice.
