Description
This superb Speyside single malt from The Glenallachie is a part of the second batch of their Virgin Oak Series. This dram matured for almost nine years in American ex-bourbon barrels, before being lovingly finished in hogsheads made from Haute-Garonne sourced French oak for 18 extra months. Bottled at 48% abv, this liquid is free from chill filtration and has natural colour.
On the nose, we encounter bursts of orange zest, honey and baking spice and followed by hints of caramelised stone fruits. The taste profile consists of waves of honeysuckle, cinder toffee and chocolate espresso, leading into notes of grapefruit and earthy tannins. On the finish, a delicate ginger flavour lingers on.
