Arran Master of Distilling II

Crafted with 2006 casks and finished in 100% Palo Cortado sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, this expression is limited to just 12,000 bottles at natural cask strength of 51.8% abv.
Sweet citrus on the nose with orange marmalade and mango, before grassy notes and warming ginger. The palate brings rich dark chocolate and more orange notes, with a pinch of salt and buttery sourdough bread. The finish has classic Arran notes with cider apple, warming ginger and rich sherry.

Arran Port Wood Cask Finish

It was matured initially in traditional oak casks for approximately 8 years beforehand. The result? A perfectly paired dram, full of rich spices in the flavour.
A freshly baked apple pie fills the aromas on the nose, along with cinnamon spice. More nutty flavours and dried fruits appear on the palate, and a splash of water adds citrusy mandarin notes and honeyed sweetness. $162.00 Availability: In StockA deep amber colour, with excellent beading. A mellow nose, rounded. The top notes are fruity and syrupy (tinned pears?), with a pale sponge note behind. A mouthfilling texture and a mildly sweet taste, drying gently with a hint of spice. Smooth and relaxed. -
Arran Quarter Cask The Bothy
$68.00 Availability: In StockDistilled at the Arran distillery at Lochranza in the north of the island, this single malt is matured for seven years in first fill ex-bourbon barrels before spending a further two years in quarter casks, holding just 125 litres. These smaller cask allow for more interaction between the whisky and the wood, giving a more intense maturation. Bottled at 56.2% abv, this expression joined the Arran core range in 2019 with refreshed packaging.
The nose has characteristic Arran notes of citrus and sweet spice, with vanilla and cinnamon emerging. The palate is sweet and honeyed with vanilla, coconut and pineapple, before a long, sweet finish with lingering fruity aspects.

Arran Sauternes Cask Finish

Matured in first fill sherry hogsheads, this expression is a return to the style of some of the earliest Arran single malts. Presented at a natural cask strength of 55.8% abv, this single malt is free from chill filtration and artificial colouring.
The nose is sweet with chocolate-coated raisins, mandarins and a touch of spice. The palate is warm and rich with sweet cherries, ripe figs and luxurious sherry notes without overpowering the subtle Arran spirit. The finish brings notes of pink pepper and hazelnut with toasted oak lingering on.

The whisky was initially aged in bourbon barrels for 5 and a half years, before being moved to custom-made Quarter Casks from a tiny bourbon distillery in Chicago, Koval, for an additional 5 and a half years. The heavily peated single malt sits at 42ppm, and has been bottled at 50% abv. Free from chill filtration and at natural colour.Â
There are notes of hazelnut, caramel, orange zest, vanilla and a rich dry smoke on the nose, which lead to flavours of spicy cinnamon and citrus on the oily, mouthwatering palate. The finish brings together spice, citrus, smoke, peat, vanilla, cinnamon and toasted oak in an ultra-smooth crescendo.Â

Digital Drams: Arran and Lagg Single Malt

On the 30th of May we’ll be taking a trip to the Isle of Arran and trying some excellent single malts, from Arran and sister distillery Lagg. We’ll be joined by Mariella Romano and the line-up features the yet to be released Arran Signature Series Edition 2.
Independently owned Isle of Arran Distillers was founded in 1994. The distillery stands in the village of Lochranza, to the North, and draws its source waters from the Loch na Davie, which are purified by granite and softened by peat as it arrives from the mountain above. Lagg is based on the south side of the island and began production in April 2019 and its peaty character is winning over whisky-lover worldwide.
