A twist on the classic martini, the Espresso Martini is said to have been invented at Freds Club in London in the 1980s, but has seen a surge in popularity recently.

We’ve chosen Haku Japanese vodka from Suntory as our base and added Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur.

Ingredients:

• 100ml vodka
• 12.5ml sugar syrup
• 50ml freshly brewed espresso
• 50ml coffee liqueur
• 3-4 coffee beans to garnish

Method:

• Shake up the liquid ingredients with a handful of ice until the shaker feels icy cold.
• Strain into chilled martini glasses.
• Float the coffee beans on top to garnish.

Legend goes this cocktail was invented in honour of Winston Churchill’s mother, Lady Randolph Churchill. Dating to the Manhattan Club, New York, in 1874, this classic American aperitif was originally crafted with rye whiskey, but is now more commonly served with bourbon. Many variations exist, but the classic Manhattan consists of whiskey, vermouth and Angostura bitters, garnished with a maraschino cherry.

For our take on the classic Manhattan, we’ve paired Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Kentucky straight bourbon with Martini Rosso sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters and a twist on the classic cherry garnish with a cherry syrup.

Ingredients:

• 50ml whiskey
• 37.5ml sweet vermouth
• 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
• 5ml cherry syrup

Method:

• Stir all ingredients together in a mixing glass with ice.
• Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

A classic American cocktail, the Old Fashioned originated in Kentucky around the late 19th century. Legend has it that a bartender in the Pendennis Club, Louisville, created the drink for local distiller Colonel James E. Pepper. The drink even inspired the creation of the Old Fashioned glass, a tumbler with a tick glass bottom, capable of withstanding the muddling of the ingredients.

The original Old Fashioned was created with bourbon so we have chosen Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Kentucky straight bourbon, but as with all classic cocktails, variations abound and one of our favourites uses Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask single malt Scotch whisky. Choose your spirit before adding to your basket.

ingredients:

• 50ml whisky
• 5ml sugar syrup
• 3 dashes Angostura bitters
• orange slice
• lemon twist

Method:

• In a chilled Old Fashioned glass/rocks tumbler, combine sugar syrup and Angostura bitters and muddle together with an orange slice.
• Add ice to the glass.
• Pour whisky over the ice.
• Squeeze the lemon twist so the aromatic oils spray over the drink then drop into the glass.

Described as ‘a species of fortified lemonade in concentrated form’ by Esquire’s 1945 Handbook for Hosts, the whisky sour dates back to the mid-19th century. Originally crafted with bourbon, lemon juice and simple syrup, this classic cocktail has inspired numerous variations.

For our whisky sour we’ve chosen Hibiki Japanese Harmony blended whisky for our base.

Ingredients:

• 50ml whisky
• 20ml fresh lemon juice
• 12.5ml simple syrup
• 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
• Lemon or orange slice and Maraschino cherry to garnish

Method:

• Vigorously shake the liquid ingredients with ice.
• Strain into a chilled rocks glass or highball glass.
• Garnish with lemon/orange slice and cherry.
