  • Scarabus Islay 10 Year Old Single Malt

Scarabus Islay 10 Year Old Single Malt

    $39.99 Availability: In Stock

Scarabus may be an Islay single malt you are unfamiliar with, but do not be surprised. A whisky bold about its origins, but a little hard-to-pin down about pretty much everything else. And even more mysteriously, Hunter Laing have managed to get a 10-year-old variation of the mysterious single malt. Produced by an undisclosed distillery on Islay, this was bottled together after a decade of gently maturing in a combination of refill, virgin oak, and ex-bourbon casks.

The nose is smoky, with notes of buttery pastry, sea air, and floral notes. On the palate lies notes of vanilla pods, dried spice heat, and brown sugar. The finish is everything you would expect from an Islay distillery, full of peat and warming.

    Scarabus Islay Single Malt

    $34.99 Availability: In Stock

Sourced from an unknown Islay distillery arrives this new offering from Hunter Laing, titled Scarabus. The name translates to ‘a rocky place’ in Old Norse, make of that what you may. What we do know is that it is a single malt whisky launched for Fèis Ìle 2019 and is bottled at the strength of 46% and without colouring or chill filtration.

Peat smoke and sea salt aromas arrive on the nose, leading into notes of warming leather, stewed rhubarb, and a wonderful vanilla sweetness on the palate. The finish is rich and lingering.

  • Scarabus Islay Single Malt Batch Strength

Scarabus Islay Single Malt Batch Strength

    $41.50 Availability: In Stock

Inspired by an alchemy of craft and cask, time, sea, and air. This is a batch strength edition of Scarabus’ single malt whisky. Offering all the same peat, sea air freshness and vanilla sweetness of the standard release but with these notes enhanced a little. Just like the original, this is free from chill filtration and artificial colouring. It is presented at 57% abv, slightly higher than the original Scarabus, the mystery single malt.

The tasting notes for these are a little different to the original. Notes of beach bonfire smoke waft up on the nose alongside characteristically Islay peat smoke, and these notes combine and complement hints of liquorice, toffee, and vanilla on the palate. The finish is long lasting, with ashy, smoky notes coming to the forefront. One to savour.
