Description
The seventh small-batch release from Wolfburn, Batch 458 has been crafted from a 50/50 combination of whisky matured for seven years in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, married with lightly-peated spirit matured in first-fill bourbon barrels. These casks produced just 5,100 bottles in total, filled at 46% abv.
On the nose, aromas of treacle and coffee notes lead the way, accompanied by subtle tones of cherry and dried spice. Hazelnut, almonds and cloves are all present on the palate, wonderfully overlaid with soft peat smoke, before a finish where treacle sweetness dominates and peat smoke lingers on.
