Royal Salute, a brand created to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and taking its name from the ceremonial 21-gun salute fired from the Tower of London to mark royal occasions, has curated this exceptional collection of whiskies paying homage to Kingdoms around the world.
The third and final edition in this range is this exceptional liquid, The Royal Salute 26-Year-Old Colheita Port Cask Finish. This bottling drew its inspiration from the old Kingdom of Portugal, rich in history, art, culture, and natural beauty, all of which is reflected in the simply superb packaging.
The liquid itself is steeped in Portuguese heritage, having been matured in Colheita Port casks from the renowned Portuguese winery located in the Douro Valley. The result is a dram which delicate and nuanced, bottled at a easy-drinking 40% abv.
Expect a nose of stewed pears, summer berries, spiced orange, glazed cherries, red liquorice, fig jam, marzipan, cinnamon sweets and nutmeg spice, unfolding into a palate of Fresh blueberries and orchard fruits – namely plums – are followed by notes of toasted hazelnuts, orange peel zest, lavish, creamy toffee and lively spice of ginger and cardamon. The finish is sweet, spicy, and lightly dry.
