Description
GlenAllachie is best known for its unpeated Speyside single malt, but once a year the distillery does something a little different. Meikle Toir – Gaelic for “the big peat” – is a small batch, heavily peated spirit. Cask #9851 is a Pedro Ximénez hogshead, and the pairing of heavy peat liquid with PX sherry maturation is one of whisky’s most compelling combinations.
Bottled at full cask strength of 64.5% ABV, expect a nose of smoked orchard fruits, raisins, and grilled honeycomb, over a palate of sweet espresso, fmanuka honey, and barbecued stone fruits, and spiced orange. Caramelised baking spices develop through the mid-palate.
At 350 bottles, this is a genuinely limited release.
